Legendary former Alex Ferguson was taken to hospital on Sunday after feeling unwell at Old Trafford, shortly before Manchester United’s Premier League clash with Liverpool.
Sources close to the situation indicated that the move was purely precautionary and not considered an emergency involving the 84-year-old. Ferguson, who managed Manchester United for 27 years, is a regular attendee at matches, typically watching from the directors’ box.
No official update has yet been provided regarding his condition following his admission.
Ferguson, widely regarded as one of football’s greatest managers, previously suffered a brain haemorrhage in 2018 that left him seriously ill. He later spoke publicly about his recovery in 2021.
Earlier on Sunday, Ferguson had been seen at Old Trafford socialising with guests ahead of the match. Among them was Aseem Malhotra, a consultant cardiologist, who shared a photo on X (formerly Twitter), describing the meeting as “a privilege, honour and dream come true.”
Ferguson was reportedly transported by ambulance from the tunnel area of the stadium to a nearby hospital.
Club officials remain optimistic that he will recover quickly and return home in the coming days.
