$245 Million Fraud: INTERPOL, NPF Intercept Fugitive at Olowotedo Factory|LAGOS EYE NEWS

The Nigeria Police Force, in collaboration with INTERPOL NCB Abuja, has successfully apprehended Chinese national Xu Qing, wanted for orchestrating a massive Ponzi scheme that defrauded hundreds of investors across China.

Qing, who fled China on 5 November 2024, was arrested at a factory in Olowotedo, Siun Village, Ogun State, on 24 April 2026, following weeks of sustained intelligence gathering and surveillance operations.

He was repatriated to China four days later on 28 April 2026 to face prosecution.

The suspect is accused of large-scale illegal absorption of public deposits through an elaborate fraudulent scheme valued at over $245 million, funds stolen directly from unsuspecting individuals through calculated deception.

“Nigeria will not serve as a refuge for fugitives,” declared Inspector General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, psc (+), NPM, underscoring the Force’s commitment to combating transnational crime. “No individual, whether domestic or foreign, will find safe harbor on our shores.”

The IGP further cautioned Nigerian businesses to exercise due diligence when engaging foreign nationals, calling for thorough background checks to mitigate the risk of fraud and financial crimes.

The operation demonstrates the increasing cooperation between Nigerian law enforcement and international policing bodies in tackling cross-border criminal networks.

“Justice extends beyond borders, and so does the commitment of the Force,” the IGP stated.

The arrest reinforces Nigeria’s position as a nation that upholds the rule of law and stands against criminal impunity, regardless of the perpetrator’s nationality or the complexity of the crime.
