Ghana Reports South Africa to AU Over Xenophobic Attacks |LAGOS EYE NEWS

The Ghanaian government has formally reported South Africa to the African Union (AU) over recurring xenophobic attacks targeting African nationals, including Ghanaians residing and conducting business in the country.

According to authorities in Accra, Ghana has petitioned the AU to place the issue on the agenda of the organisation’s Eighth Mid-Year Coordination Meeting.

The move follows increasing complaints of harassment, intimidation, and threats against Ghanaians in South Africa, amid renewed immigration-related protests and crackdowns in parts of the country.

Ghanaian officials are seeking urgent intervention from the AU, calling on regional leaders to uphold the principles of free movement, safety, and protection of Africans living in other member states.

Accra stated that escalating the matter to the continental body forms part of broader efforts to secure a regional solution and prevent further tensions.

Officials say Ghana remains committed to diplomatic engagement while advocating stronger protections for its citizens abroad.
