The African Union Commission has expressed deep concern over recent security developments in Mogadishu, including reports of armed clashes in civilian areas.
In a statement, the Commission called on all parties involved to immediately cease hostilities, exercise maximum restraint, and prioritize the protection of civilians. It also urged stakeholders to avoid actions that could further escalate tensions in the Somali capital.
The Commission emphasized the need for all Somali stakeholders to address their differences through dialogue and established constitutional mechanisms, stressing the importance of peaceful engagement in resolving political and security challenges.
The African Union further encouraged the continued efforts of Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, alongside other political actors, in advancing national dialogue, reconciliation, and consensus-building aimed at promoting political stability.
The Commission reaffirmed its commitment to closely monitoring the situation and pledged continued support through the African Union Support and Stabilization Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM) to help restore peace and security in Somalia.
The African Union said it remains ready to provide full assistance in support of efforts to maintain stability and strengthen peacebuilding initiatives across the country.
