FG Completes Screening of Nigerians Registered for Evacuation from South Africa|LAGOS EYE NEWS

The Federal Government has announced the completion of the screening exercise for Nigerians in South Africa who registered for evacuation, as authorities move to finalize the list of individuals cleared to return home.

According to a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the screening exercise began on June 4 and was conducted through a collaborative effort involving the Nigerian High Commission in Pretoria, South Africa’s Department of International Relations and Cooperation, the South African Police Service, and immigration authorities.

The ministry stated that the exercise was aimed at verifying and documenting Nigerians seeking evacuation amid rising security concerns.

With the screening process concluded, officials are expected to determine the final number of Nigerians eligible for evacuation. The government said arrangements would then be completed for the deployment of aircraft to transport the evacuees back to Nigeria.

The planned evacuation follows growing concerns over the safety of Nigerians living in South Africa amid renewed xenophobic attacks reportedly targeting African migrants in parts of the country.

The Federal Government reiterated its commitment to protecting the welfare of Nigerian citizens abroad and assured those affected that necessary measures are being taken to facilitate their safe return.
