Operatives of the Nigeria Police Force have rescued Mrs. Olaide Busayo Adegoke John-Paul and her 12-year-old twin sons, Peter and Paul, following a coordinated operation in Ibadan, Oyo State.
The victims, who were abducted on June 3, 2026, while travelling to drop the children at school, were rescued unharmed during a late-night operation conducted at about 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 6.
Mrs. John-Paul is the younger sister of former Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu.
According to the Nigeria Police Force, the rescue was carried out by operatives of the Force Intelligence Department–Intelligence Response Team (FID-IRT) after days of intensive intelligence gathering, surveillance, and tactical operations.
Force Public Relations Officer, Anthony Okon Placid, confirmed the development in a statement issued on Saturday in Abuja.
He said sustained intelligence efforts enabled investigators to track the movements of the kidnappers, leading to a confrontation between the suspects and security operatives.
“During the operation, two suspected kidnappers were fatally wounded in an exchange of gunfire with FID-IRT operatives, while two rifles were recovered from the scene,” the statement said.
The police spokesperson added that the victims were rescued unharmed and have since been placed in safe custody, where they are receiving medical attention and psychological support.
Inspector-General of Police commended the courage, professionalism, and resilience displayed by the operatives involved in the rescue mission.
“The dedication and effectiveness of the FID-IRT personnel were instrumental in securing the safe release of the hostages,” the statement noted.
The police further disclosed that efforts have been intensified to apprehend other members of the kidnapping syndicate who escaped during the operation.
Preliminary intelligence reports indicate that some of the fleeing suspects may have sustained gunshot injuries during the exchange of fire.
“Operations are ongoing to track down and arrest all individuals connected to the abduction and ensure they face the full weight of the law,” the police said.
The Nigeria Police Force also expressed appreciation to members of the public for their support, cooperation, and patience throughout the operation, reiterating its commitment to combating violent crimes and safeguarding lives and property across the country.
