The Ogun State Ministry of Education, Science and Technology has directed all public and private schools across the state to immediately discontinue the organization of graduation ceremonies and end-of-session parties.
The directive was contained in a circular issued by the ministry and signed by the Director of Education (Private Schools), A.A. Bisiriyu, on behalf of the Permanent Secretary. The circular was addressed to school administrators through Zonal Education Officers.
According to the ministry, the decision followed reports that some school administrators were allegedly exploiting parents and guardians by imposing various charges under the guise of organizing graduation ceremonies and end-of-session celebrations.
The ministry noted that such practices are inconsistent with resolutions reached during the 2025/2026 pre-resumption stakeholders’ meeting held in September 2025 at Lisabi Grammar School Hall, Abeokuta.
The circular emphasized that the Ogun State Government does not approve of graduation ceremonies and end-of-session parties for pupils and students in any class across public and private schools in the state.
“As a result, no school owner should organize such gatherings henceforth,” the ministry stated.
The government further warned that any school found violating the directive would be sanctioned in accordance with existing regulations.
LAGOS EYE NEWS reports that school administrators have also been directed to give the circular the widest publicity among staff, parents, and other stakeholders to ensure strict compliance.
The development is expected to generate mixed reactions among school proprietors, parents, and education stakeholders, as graduation ceremonies and end-of-session celebrations have become a common feature of academic activities in many schools across Ogun State.
