The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service on Tuesday rescued a 48-year-old man who accidentally fell into a drainage channel at Al-Moruf Bus Stop, Iyana-Ipaja, within the Orile-Agege Local Council Development Area (LCDA) of Lagos State.
According to a statement signed by Maria Fadairo, Senior Public Affairs Officer, Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service said, an emergency distress call was received at about 7:06 a.m., prompting the immediate deployment of rescue personnel from the Agege Fire Station.
The team arrived at the scene at approximately 7:23 a.m. and commenced rescue operations without delay.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the victim, believed to be under the influence of alcohol, fell into a drainage channel estimated to be about five feet deep.
Firefighters successfully rescued the man alive and unharmed. Authorities confirmed that no injuries or casualties were recorded, and the victim was found to be in stable condition after the operation.
The cause of the incident is still under investigation.
Reacting to the incident, the Controller General of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Margaret Adeseye, reiterated the need for public vigilance and personal safety, especially around drainage channels, construction sites, and other environmental hazards.
She advised residents to avoid actions that could put their lives at risk and urged members of the public to promptly report emergencies through the appropriate channels.
The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property through swift emergency response and sustained public safety advocacy.
