PDP Petitions IGP Over Alleged False Information Submitted to INEC on Party Leadership|LAGOS EYE NEWS

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), through its legal representatives, Ogbeide Associates, has petitioned the Inspector General of Police (IGP), calling for an investigation into Senator Samuel Anyanwu and Hon. Abdulrahman Mohammed over alleged false information submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) concerning the party’s leadership.

According to the petition on Thursday, the disputed communication, dated November 3, 2025, allegedly informed INEC that the PDP’s National Working Committee (NWC) had suspended Ambassador Umar Iliya Damagum as Acting National Chairman and appointed Hon. Abdulrahman Mohammed as his replacement.

However, the petition contends that the party’s 608th Emergency NWC meeting, held on November 1, 2025, resolved instead to suspend Senator Anyanwu and three other party officials over allegations of anti-party activities. It further alleges that no resolution, minutes, or attendance record exists to support claims that the NWC suspended Ambassador Damagum or approved Hon. Mohammed’s appointment.

The petition also states that official attendance records from the November 1 meeting indicate Senator Anyanwu was absent, while Hon. Mohammed was present. It argues that Hon. Mohammed therefore had firsthand knowledge of the decisions reached at the meeting before the November 3 letter was sent to INEC.

Ogbeide Associates further referenced a judgment delivered by the Federal High Court on October 10, 2024, in Suit No. FHC/ABJ/CS/579/2024, which recognised Ambassador Damagum as the PDP’s Acting National Chairman and restrained INEC from acting on documents that did not bear his signature. According to the petition, Senator Anyanwu had previously forwarded the judgment to INEC for compliance in November 2024.

The petition also cited a Court of Appeal judgment delivered on March 9, 2026, which it said affirmed the NWC’s suspension of Senator Anyanwu.

Beyond requesting an investigation into the two party officials, the petition urged the Nigeria Police Force to examine INEC’s handling of the November 3, 2025 letter, arguing that the electoral commission was already in possession of both the court judgment recognising Ambassador Damagum and the NWC’s suspension resolution at the time.

Speaking on the petition, counsel to the petitioner said the matter concerns the integrity of public institutions and the need to ensure official records accurately reflect decisions taken within political parties.

Ogbeide Associates said it is prepared to provide the police with all relevant documents, including court judgments and internal party records, to support any investigation into the matter.

As of the time of filing this report, neither Senator Samuel Anyanwu, Hon. Abdulrahman Mohammed, nor the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had publicly responded to the allegations contained in the petition.
