The All Progressives Congress (APC) has presented the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) nomination forms to its candidates for the 2027 Lagos State House of Assembly election, confirming that 12 serving lawmakers will not contest on the party’s platform.
The move comes amid a growing internal dispute within the Lagos chapter of the APC following its primary elections, with several aspirants rejecting the outcome and alleging irregularities in the candidate selection process.
According to LAGOS EYE NEWS, some aggrieved aspirants claim that candidates who won the party primaries were later replaced before the final list was submitted. The allegations have sparked protests in parts of Lagos, with some party members warning that the dispute could affect the APC’s prospects in the 2027 general elections if left unresolved.
Among the lawmakers who did not secure the party’s nomination are the Majority Leader, Noheem Adams; Chief Whip, Fatai Mojeed; Deputy Chief Whip, Setonji David; and Surulere Constituency I representative, Desmond Elliot.
Others are Gbolahan Ogunleye (Ikorodu I), Lanre Afini (Lagos Island I), Stephen Ogundipe (Oshodi/Isolo I), Obafemi Saheed (Kosofe II), Bonu Solomon (Badagry II), Emmanuel Oloto (Ifako-Ijaiye II), Jubreel Abdulkareem (Agege II) and Apata Samuel (Somolu II).
The exclusion of the 12 lawmakers represents one of the biggest political reshuffles in the Lagos State House of Assembly ahead of the 2027 elections.
Party officials are said to be making efforts to reconcile aggrieved aspirants and their supporters. However, protests and complaints over the conduct of the primaries have continued, with some members calling on the party leadership to reverse what they describe as unjust substitutions.
Separately, the APC has confirmed that it has successfully uploaded the names of about 471 candidates for the presidential, National Assembly and other elective positions to INEC’s Candidate Nomination Portal before the submission deadline.
The party’s National Chairman congratulated the candidates following the completion of the nomination process.
However, submission to the INEC portal does not amount to final acceptance. The electoral commission is expected to scrutinise each nomination to ensure it complies with electoral guidelines and that candidates emerged from duly monitored primary elections.
INEC has said only nominations that satisfy its legal and procedural requirements will be accepted. Party members and aspirants are now awaiting the commission’s verification process and the publication of the final list of duly nominated candidates for the 2027 elections.
