French Lawmakers Set to Approve Social Media Ban for Children Under 15 |LAGOS EYE NEWS

French lawmakers are expected to approve legislation that will ban children under the age of 15 from accessing social media platforms, placing France among the leading European Union countries introducing stricter online protections for minors.

Lawmakers from both the upper and lower houses of parliament reached a compromise on the final version of the bill on Monday, clearing the way for a final vote.

The measure is widely expected to pass despite opposition from some left-wing parties.

The proposed law will be implemented in two phases. Beginning September 1, children under 15 will be barred from creating new social media accounts.

The second phase, scheduled to take effect in January 2027, will extend the ban to existing accounts held by users under the age of 15, requiring platforms to enforce the restrictions.
