Lagos Seals Over 20 Properties in Ikeja Over Planning Violations |LAGOS EYE NEWS

The Lagos State Government has sealed more than 20 properties in Ikeja Local Government Area over various physical planning violations, as part of efforts to enforce compliance with the state’s physical planning laws and regulations.

The enforcement exercise was carried out by the Lagos State Physical Planning Permit Authority (LASPPPA), led by the Permanent Secretary, Office of Physical Planning, Tpl. Olayinka Wasiu, alongside the General Manager of LASPPPA, Tpl. Kehinde Osinaike, and other directors of the agency.

The affected properties include landed properties, uncompleted buildings and structures with unauthorised extensions found to be in breach of the Lagos State Physical Planning Law.

Speaking during the exercise, Wasiu described the enforcement as a proactive measure aimed at preventing building collapse, promoting orderly physical development and ensuring strict adherence to physical planning regulations across the state.

He reaffirmed the Lagos State Government’s commitment to protecting lives and property through the enforcement of planning laws designed to create a safe, resilient and sustainable built environment.

According to the Permanent Secretary, owners of the affected properties had earlier been served contravention notices detailing the steps required to regularise their developments before the enforcement action was carried out.

He urged property owners and developers to obtain the necessary planning permits and approvals before commencing any development or structural alteration, stressing that compliance with planning regulations is critical to sustainable urban development.

Wasiu added that the Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development, through LASPPPA, would continue to strengthen monitoring and enforcement activities across the state to curb illegal developments and preserve the integrity of the built environment.

He also assured law-abiding residents of the government’s commitment to maintaining an orderly, aesthetically pleasing and legally compliant environment in line with Lagos State’s vision of building a safe, modern and sustainable megacity.
