Lagos Taskforce Arrests 33 in Crackdown on Suspected Criminals, Drug Peddlers|LAGOS EYE NEWS

The Lagos State Environmental and Special Offences (Enforcement) Unit, popularly known as the Taskforce, says it has arrested 33 suspects during an enforcement operation targeting suspected criminals and environmental offenders across parts of Lagos.

The early morning operation, carried out on Monday, focused on areas including Ikate Bus Stop, Marwa Bus Stop, Muri Okunola Park in Victoria Island, Obalende Underbridge, Law School Junction, and other adjoining locations along the Lekki-Epe Expressway.

According to the Taskforce, those targeted included suspected street urchins, miscreants, drug addicts and peddlers, illegal commercial motorcyclists (Okada riders), street traders, illegal ticket touts, and other individuals accused of disrupting public order.

The agency said it recovered substances suspected to be Tramadol, Indian hemp, Colorado, marijuana and cannabis during the raid. Dangerous items including scissors and cutlasses were also seized.

It added that the operation restored normalcy to the affected areas.

The Taskforce said all 33 suspects have been charged before the appropriate courts under relevant provisions of the Lagos State Environmental Management and Protection Law, 2017, and the Lagos State Transport Sector Reform Law, 2018, where applicable.

Speaking after the operation, Chairman of the Lagos State Taskforce, CSP Adetayo Akerele, reiterated the agency’s commitment to tackling crime and maintaining public order.

“There is no room for criminality in Lagos State. Those engaged in criminal activities should either desist or relocate. We remain committed to enforcing the laws of the State and ensuring that residents continue to enjoy a safe, secure, and orderly environment,” he said.

Mr Akerele also urged officers to sustain the ongoing enforcement drive and intensify efforts against criminal activities across the state, noting that the agency would continue intelligence-led operations aimed at improving security and environmental order.
