The Delta State Police Command has arrested four suspected members of a phone theft syndicate and recovered nine brand-new Android phones during an intelligence-led operation in Asaba.
The Command’s Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Edafe Bright, disclosed this in a statement, noting that the suspects were apprehended by operatives acting on credible and technical intelligence.
According to the statement, the suspects were arrested at their hideouts along St. Brigid’s Road in Asaba following a series of reported incidents involving the theft of mobile phones from shops within the state capital.
The police said a search of the suspects’ hideouts led to the recovery of the stolen phones and revealed that the suspects belonged to a syndicate specializing in breaking into shops and warehouses to steal mobile devices.
The suspects reportedly confessed to their involvement in the criminal activities during interrogation.
The Command added that efforts are ongoing to apprehend other members of the syndicate and identify the rightful owners of the recovered phones.
The police reaffirmed their commitment to combating crime across the state and urged members of the public to continue providing useful information that would aid security operations.
