The Palace of the Timi of Ede, His Royal Majesty Oba Munirudeen Adesola Lawal, has dismissed claims circulating on social media that the monarch deliberately avoided a scheduled visit by the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate.
In a statement issued by the Principal Private Secretary to the Timi of Ede, Tejumola Abiodun, the palace described the reports as “false, misleading and intended to create a wrong impression before the public.”
According to the statement, the palace received notification of the proposed visit less than 24 hours before the scheduled date, a notice it said did not meet the protocol and courtesy expected for an official engagement with the traditional ruler.
The palace explained that the monarch had already committed to official engagements before the invitation was received. These included attending a festival at the palace of the Olojudo and paying a condolence visit to the Ooni of Ife following the death of the monarch’s elder brother.
It said the engagements had been arranged well in advance and could not be cancelled at short notice.
The palace rejected suggestions that Oba Munirudeen Adesola Lawal intentionally avoided the APC candidate’s visit, describing such claims as disrespectful to the institution of traditional rulership and the established protocols governing official engagements with royal fathers.
The statement urged the public to disregard what it called unfounded reports and to verify information through official channels before sharing it.
The palace added that the Timi of Ede remains committed to maintaining cordial relationships with individuals, groups and political stakeholders while preserving the dignity, neutrality and integrity of the traditional institution.
