The Accord Party’s Imole Campaign Council has welcomed the reported removal of the Osun State Commissioner of Police, describing the development as a victory for the people of the state.

In a statement issued on Thursday by its spokesperson, Pelumi Olajengbesi, the council expressed appreciation to the Inspector-General of Police, saying the police leadership had “listened to the voice of the people.”

According to the statement, the outgoing police commissioner would be remembered for what it described as an “unprofessional and disappointing tenure” in Osun State. The council expressed hope that the incoming commissioner would demonstrate professionalism, impartiality and respect for the rule of law.

The council also commended the Inspector-General of Police and the Osun State Police Command over the release of the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Chief Teslim Igbalaye, who had been detained by the police.

It, however, called for the immediate and unconditional release of other individuals it described as political detainees still in police custody.

“The Nigerian Police Force best serves the nation when it stands against oppression and upholds justice and the rule of law,” the statement said.

The council further welcomed the release of the SSG, describing his return as a significant development and commending what it called his courage and sacrifice for the people of Osun State.

The Nigeria Police Force has yet to officially comment on the reported removal of the Osun State Commissioner of Police or the claims made by the Imole Campaign Council.
