The Imole Campaign Council has commended the Inspector General of Police and the Commissioner of Police, Osun State Command, following the release of the Secretary to the Osun State Government (SSG), Chief Teslim Igbalaye.
In a statement signed by its spokesperson, Pelumi Olajengbesi, Esq., the council said it appreciated the police leadership for what it described as heeding “the voice of reason” and responding to public calls over the SSG’s arrest.
While welcoming Chief Igbalaye’s release, the council called for the immediate and unconditional release of other political detainees still being held in police custody.
The council also urged the Nigeria Police Force to continue to uphold justice, the rule of law, and impartiality in the discharge of its constitutional responsibilities.
Describing Chief Igbalaye’s actions as a sacrifice in the interest of the people of Osun State, the council welcomed him back and praised his resilience.
Meanwhile, the Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, Adewale Egbedun, had earlier alleged that the arrest of the SSG was ordered by the Osun State Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Gotan, in retaliation for being booed during a stakeholders’ meeting organised by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Wednesday.
The Nigeria Police Force has not publicly responded to the allegation made by the Speaker.
