A former elementary school teacher in New Jersey, United States, Laura Caron, 36, is facing a five-year prison sentence after pleading guilty to sexually abusing a pupil who was 11 years old when the alleged abuse began.
Caron, who worked as a fifth-grade teacher at Middle Township Elementary School for more than a decade, was accused of sexually abusing the boy between 2016 and 2020.
Authorities said she gave birth to a daughter in 2019, when the victim was 13 years old.
The allegations reportedly came to light in December 2024 after the boy’s father raised concerns in a social media post, claiming that Caron’s then-five-year-old daughter bore a striking resemblance to him and his son.
Following an investigation, Caron was arrested in January 2025 and charged with offences including aggravated sexual assault, sexual assault and endangering the welfare of a child.
She has now pleaded guilty to second-degree endangering the welfare of a child involving sexual conduct under a plea agreement that provides for a five-year prison sentence.
As part of the agreement, Caron is required to surrender her teaching licence, forfeit eligibility for future public employment, register as a sex offender under New Jersey’s Megan’s Law and serve lifetime parole supervision following her release.
Before sentencing, she will undergo a psychological evaluation, which could influence the final terms of her punishment.
Her sentencing has been scheduled for January 8, 2027.
