The suspended Delta State Commissioner for Works, Reuben Izeze, has regained his freedom from the Warri Correctional Centre after spending several days in custody.
Izeze was reportedly released pending his next court hearing after tendering an apology to the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Protocol, Temple Mudi, who was allegedly attacked during an All Progressives Congress (APC) stakeholders’ meeting in Effurun.
While in custody, the suspended commissioner reportedly encountered inmates who had remained in the correctional facility because they were unable to pay fines imposed by the courts.
Moved by their plight, Izeze reportedly paid the fines of 15 inmates who had been convicted and sentenced to various terms of imprisonment with an option of fine.
The payment reportedly paved the way for the immediate release of the 15 inmates from the Warri Correctional Centre.
His gesture has drawn attention to the plight of inmates who remain in correctional facilities despite being granted the option of paying fines due to their inability to raise the required funds.
