President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has confirmed the rescue of 21 Nigerians, including 15 members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), who were abducted by suspected kidnappers in Kogi State last week.
Tinubu, in a statement, said the victims, comprising eight males and 13 females, were rescued on Monday afternoon from a kidnappers’ hideout in the forests of Ofu Local Government Area.
He said the successful operation was carried out by a combined team of the military, Nigeria Police Force, Department of State Services (DSS) and local vigilantes.
According to the President, the rescued victims are currently receiving medical attention before being reunited with their families.
“While the abductees have been safely rescued, our gallant security forces are still on the trail of the routed kidnappers,” Tinubu said.
He directed security agencies to sustain pressure on criminal elements and ensure that those responsible for the abduction, as well as anyone who aided the crime, face the full weight of the law.
The President assured Nigerians that his administration remained committed to ensuring that citizens could travel across the country without fear.
Tinubu commended the combined Search and Rescue team for its courage and thanked the families and loved ones of the abducted persons for their patience and understanding during the ordeal.
He also reassured parents and relatives of NYSC members that his administration would continue to prioritise the safety of corps members and other Nigerians.
Tinubu concluded by commending the men and women of Nigeria’s security and intelligence agencies for their service to the country.
