Residents of Erin-Ile and neighbouring communities in Oyun Local Government Area of Kwara State have appealed to the Federal Government to urgently reconstruct the deteriorating Erin-Ile Federal Road, warning that its worsening condition poses serious risks to motorists and other road users.

The appeal was made by a good governance advocate from Erin-Ile, Comrade AbdulRauf Abdullahi Opeyemi, who described the road as a critical transportation link between Kwara and Osun states.

Opeyemi said several sections of the road had deteriorated to the point where they were virtually impassable, creating hardship for residents, motorists, farmers, traders and businesses that depend on the route for daily activities.

According to him, the poor condition of the road has made it increasingly difficult for farmers to transport agricultural produce to markets, while traders and other businesses are facing higher transportation costs and disruptions to commercial activities.

He stressed that the road’s importance extended beyond Erin-Ile, noting that its rehabilitation would improve interstate connectivity, boost commerce and support economic development across communities in Kwara and neighbouring Osun State.

Opeyemi urged the Federal Government to move beyond temporary repairs and undertake a comprehensive reconstruction of the road to provide a safe and durable transportation corridor.

“We are not merely asking for temporary patching of the most damaged portions. We are appealing for a lasting and comprehensive reconstruction of the road to restore safe and reliable access for the people of Erin-Ile and neighbouring communities,” he said.

He also called on community leaders, political office holders, traditional institutions, youth organisations, stakeholders and indigenes of Erin-Ile and Oyun Local Government Area to join the campaign for urgent government intervention.

The advocate appealed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Federal Ministry of Works, relevant federal agencies, members of the National Assembly, the Kwara State Government and elected representatives to visit the road and assess its condition firsthand.

“We cannot wait until there is a tragedy,” Opeyemi warned, stressing that government intervention was needed before the situation deteriorated further or lives were lost.

“The people are not asking for political promises. They are asking for action. Please hear the voice of Erin-Ile. Please come to our aid. Please reconstruct the Erin-Ile Federal Road,” he appealed.

He maintained that immediate intervention would ease the burden on residents, facilitate the movement of agricultural produce and goods, reduce transportation difficulties and restore safer movement between communities in Kwara and Osun states.
