The Chief Executive Officer of HEADSTATEMENT International, Pastor Mrs Rotimi Oluwabukola, has urged young entrepreneurs to save, invest and reinvest their earnings rather than spend all their income, as part of efforts to build financial resilience.

She gave the advice while delivering a lecture titled “Creating Multiple Streams of Income in a Challenging Economy” at the RCCG His Majesty Chapel DIBA Business Summit 2026 in Lagos.

Pastor Oluwabukola said increasing income alone would not guarantee financial stability without discipline, urging entrepreneurs to understand the difference between income, savings, investment and wealth.

“Do not consume everything,” she advised, encouraging participants to save, invest, reinvest in their businesses and gradually build productive assets.

The summit, brought together entrepreneurs, professionals and members of the public to discuss ways of building sustainable businesses and improving financial resilience.

Pastor Oluwabukola said rising costs of food, transport, housing, education and healthcare had made it increasingly risky for individuals and families to depend on a single source of income.

She therefore encouraged Nigerians to develop multiple legitimate income streams around their primary jobs or businesses.

According to her, people could build additional income through side businesses, professional services, digital work and investments, stressing that diversification should be approached gradually.

The HEADSTATEMENT International CEO said Nigerians should recognise their skills as economic assets and find ways of packaging them into products and services that people would pay for.

“Your skill is an economic asset,” she said, citing catering, tailoring, teaching, baking, photography, event planning, consulting and digital services as examples of skills that could generate additional income.

She advised aspiring entrepreneurs to start with what they already had instead of waiting for substantial capital or perfect economic conditions.

She said knowledge, time, creativity, relationships, experience and even a mobile phone could provide the resources needed to begin creating value.

Pastor Oluwabukola also urged entrepreneurs to make effective use of technology and social media to promote their products and services.

She identified WhatsApp and other digital platforms as useful tools for reaching customers beyond their immediate communities.

However, she cautioned that technology alone could not guarantee business success, saying entrepreneurs must combine it with quality, consistency, effective marketing and integrity.

She also warned participants against get-rich-quick schemes and investments promising unrealistic returns.

“Do not invest in what you do not understand,” she said, urging investors to investigate opportunities, understand associated risks and ensure that investments were legitimate and appropriately regulated.

The pastor encouraged young entrepreneurs not to be discouraged by starting with a small customer base or making modest profits.

She said consistent growth could turn small businesses into sustainable enterprises, urging participants to remain patient, diligent and committed to creating value.

She also stressed the importance of building relationships, continuous learning and excellent customer service.

According to her, strong relationships could create opportunities for customers, partnerships and mentorship, while integrity and good service could help businesses retain customers.

Pastor Oluwabukola urged Christians to combine faith with practical action, saying prayer and trust in God should be accompanied by planning, hard work, personal development and responsible financial decisions.

She outlined a 30-day action plan for participants, which included identifying a marketable skill, finding a problem they could solve, starting with available resources, using technology to market their products or services, setting savings and reinvestment targets and researching legitimate investment opportunities.

She said the goal should not be to become wealthy overnight but to build financial resilience and, eventually, financial freedom.

“We may not control inflation, exchange rates or government policies, but we can control our preparation, skills, discipline and response,” she said.

She urged Nigerians to develop their skills, create value, save, invest, reinvest and diversify their income instead of waiting for perfect economic conditions.
