The 2026 Lagos State Food Safety Conference and Exhibition has brought together key stakeholders in the food sector to strengthen collaboration and promote safer food practices across the state.
The conference attracted representatives of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC), Federal Institute of Industrial Research, Oshodi (FIRO), Nutrition Society of Nigeria, Consumer Advocacy for Food Safety, government agencies, the organised private sector and other players in the food industry.
In his welcome address, the General Manager/Chief Executive Officer of the Lagos State Consumer Protection Agency (LASCOPA), Afolabi Solebo, stressed that food safety should be regarded not only as a fundamental right but also as a shared responsibility.
Solebo called for stronger collaboration among stakeholders, continuous capacity building, improved infrastructure, technology-driven food safety systems and increased consumer awareness.
He noted that every participant in the food chain has a critical role to play, from farmers and processors to transporters, vendors, retailers and consumers.
The conference emphasised the need for stakeholders to shift from reacting to food safety challenges to preventing them, while replacing fragmented approaches with coordinated and sustainable solutions.
It also featured technical presentations by experts, including Dr Adeniyi Odugbemi, Global Director of Quality and Food Safety at ADM, USA, and Dr Nurah Oseni, a food and cosmetics scientist.
LAGOS EYE NEWS reports that the conference was aimed at advancing practical solutions and strengthening collective efforts to ensure that consumers have access to safe and quality food.
