A joint enforcement operation by the Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA), the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps (KAI) and Mobile Police personnel has led to the arrest of a resident of Meiran, Lagos, for allegedly dumping refuse into a drainage channel.

The suspect, identified as a resident of No. 13 Lanre Adefiranye Street, Baale Bus Stop, Meiran, was arrested following a tip-off received by the enforcement team.

According to the authorities, the resident was allegedly caught disposing of refuse into a drainage channel during rainfall on Wednesday, September 9, 2026.

The suspect was subsequently taken to the KAI headquarters for further investigation and prosecution.

The enforcement agencies have again warned Lagos residents against indiscriminate waste disposal, particularly the dumping of refuse in drainage channels.

LAWMA said such practices contribute to the blockage of drainage systems, increasing the risk of flooding across the state.

Residents have therefore been urged to dispose of their waste through approved channels and comply with the state’s environmental regulations.
