The husband of Mrs. Anulika Nwokike, who was arrested over allegations of molesting her children for social media content, Mr. Ikechukwu Onyeanyusi, has broken his silence on the disturbing incident.
Onyeanyusi, who spoke in a video released on Saturday, said he was shocked and deeply distressed by the allegations, maintaining that he was unaware of his wife’s activities involving their children.
He appealed to members of the public and relevant agencies to show compassion towards his daughters and provide the necessary support as they begin the process of recovering from the experience.
The incident has renewed concerns over the growing exploitation of children for social media content, with child protection advocates warning that children must not be subjected to harmful or abusive acts for entertainment, publicity or online engagement.
The Anambra State Ministry of Women and Social Welfare, in collaboration with law enforcement agencies, has commenced measures to ensure that the affected children receive appropriate psychological, welfare and protective support.
The ministry also commended members of the community who provided information that enabled authorities to intervene in the matter.
The Commissioner for Women and Social Welfare, Mrs. Chinyere Esther Onyekesi, reaffirmed the administration of Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo’s commitment to a zero-tolerance policy towards child abuse and exploitation.
Onyekesi urged members of the public to promptly report suspected cases of child abuse, stressing that protecting children from violence, exploitation and other forms of abuse remains a collective responsibility.
She assured residents that the ministry would continue to work with relevant agencies to safeguard the rights, welfare and wellbeing of children across the state.
