The Lagos State Government has launched a free transportation scheme for 2,000 police officers serving under the Lagos State Police Command.
The initiative, tagged the Sanwo-Olu Cares Initiative for Police Officers, will provide beneficiaries with unlimited free transportation for three months across the Blue Line, Red Line, Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) and Electric Boats networks.
After the three-month period, the beneficiaries will continue to enjoy a 50 per cent discount on fares across the state’s public transportation network.
The Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Transport and Logistics, Hassan Adekoya, who disclosed this in a statement on Thursday, said the initiative was introduced in recognition of the role played by security agencies in maintaining safety and security across Lagos
Adekoya said the scheme also forms part of activities marking three years since the commencement of commercial operations on the Lagos Blue Line Rail.
The initiative is among recent welfare programmes targeted at security personnel by the administration of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
Other interventions include free eye screening and provision of eyeglasses for personnel of the Nigeria Police Force and the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency
