Judges at the International Criminal Court (ICC) have convicted former Central African Republic (CAR) militia leader Mahamat Said Abdel Kani of crimes against humanity committed in the capital, Bangui, in 2013.

Said, a former commander of the predominantly Muslim Seleka rebel coalition, was found guilty on four counts of crimes against humanity, including persecution and torture.

The court found him responsible for abuses against detainees held at the Central Office for the Repression of Banditry, a detention facility in Bangui that he controlled during the conflict.

Said denied all the charges throughout the proceedings.

However, the ICC acquitted him of three war-crimes charges. The court is expected to determine his sentence at a later date.

The case stems from violence that erupted after the Seleka coalition overthrew President Francois Bozize in 2013, triggering a wider conflict between the Seleka rebels and predominantly Christian and animist anti-Balaka armed groups.

The conflict led to widespread violence and allegations of serious abuses against civilians.

  1. I switched from another site and the difference is night and day. The game library loads instantly even on mobile and the bonuses actually feel fair. I really enjoy the weekend tournaments and the community here is super friendly. Will definitely be staying with this platform. 38vfth
