Lagos Govt Facilitates Over ₦26m Credit Adjustments, Refunds for IKEDC Customers |LAGOS EYE NEWS

The Lagos State Government has facilitated credit adjustments and refunds totalling ₦26.24 million for electricity consumers following complaints against Ikeja Electric Distribution Company (IKEDC) between January and September 2026.

The intervention, carried out through the Lagos State Consumer Protection Agency (LASCOPA), also led to the resolution of 528 out of 556 complaints received against the electricity distribution company during the nine-month period.

According to the agency, 28 complaints remain unresolved, representing a resolution rate of approximately 95 per cent.

The General Manager and Chief Executive Officer of LASCOPA, Afolabi Solebo, reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to promoting fairness, transparency, accountability and improved service delivery in the electricity distribution sector.

The agency disclosed that it facilitated credit adjustments and refunds amounting to ₦26,243,758.75 for affected consumers, highlighting the role of regulatory intervention and mediation in resolving disputes between electricity providers and their customers.

Speaking on the intervention, the Head of LASCOPA’s Complaints and Mediation Department, Yusuf Musiliu, said the agency receives and analyses consumer complaints through online and offline channels.

He explained that the agency’s monthly stakeholders’ parley with Ikeja Electric provides a platform for the company’s officials and affected customers to discuss grievances, negotiate mutually acceptable solutions and resolve disputes amicably.

Musiliu expressed satisfaction with the agreements reached through the engagement and urged consumers experiencing service-related challenges to follow established procedures for seeking redress rather than resorting to self-help.

He advised complainants to provide relevant supporting documents, including electricity bills, payment receipts and other evidence, to facilitate investigations and ensure timely resolution of their complaints.

According to him, LASCOPA’s stakeholders’ parley with Ikeja Electric holds on the last Thursday of every month, allowing consumers with unresolved complaints to engage directly with the distribution company.

The agency encouraged electricity consumers to report billing disputes, estimated billing, overbilling, electricity supply challenges and other alleged unfair practices promptly.

LASCOPA reiterated its commitment to protecting consumers and promoting accountability among service providers in accordance with its mandate and the Lagos State Consumer Protection Law 2025, as amended.

Solebo urged residents seeking assistance with consumer-related complaints to contact the agency through its toll-free helpline, 080 0005 2726, available on weekdays, or via email at lasgcopa@gmail.com.
