Don’t Repeat Your Parents’ Mistakes, Pastor Adeboye Warns Children |LAGOS EYE NEWS

Pastor E.A. Adeboye, General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), has urged children to learn from their parents’ experiences rather than repeat their mistakes.

The admonition came during the April Holy Ghost Service held on Saturday at the RCCG Redemption Camp. Themed “Glorious Tomorrow,” the service drew thousands of worshippers in person and millions more online.

Drawing inspiration from Psalm 37:25, Pastor Adeboye highlighted the significance of generational legacy, urging both biological and spiritual parents to prepare their children to sustain and expand divine purposes.

He illustrated the inevitable decline of strength with age and the role of children in carrying on the mantle. Referring to Psalm 127:3–5, he likened children to “arrows” meant to fight battles their parents can no longer wage, citing the biblical accounts of David (1 Samuel 17; 2 Samuel 21:15–17).

“Your children represent your tomorrow,” Pastor Adeboye declared, adding that many divine promises find fulfillment in the lives of the next generation, as seen in the story of Abraham and Isaac (Genesis 25:21–23).

He also referenced spiritual mentorships such as Moses and Joshua, and Elijah and Elisha, saying, “When Moses failed due to age, God raised Joshua to lead. What Elijah could not complete, Elisha achieved in double measure.”

Addressing parents, Adeboye outlined four key responsibilities: leading their children to Christ, training them in godly ways, disciplining with love, and maintaining consistent prayer.

Turning to the youth, he stressed the need for a personal walk with God, using Elisha’s dependence on the God of Elijah as an example. He encouraged children to honor their parents, submit to their authority, and value their wisdom.

“What you call a flower may actually be fire,” he warned. “Don’t repeat your parents’ mistakes.”

He further advised: “Learn as much as you can from your parents while they are still alive—because one day, they’ll be gone. There are things they can teach you that no one else can.”
