DSVA, Ford Foundation Take Anti-SGBV Campaign to Apapa-Iganmu in Door-to-Door Sensitisation Drive |LAGOS EYE NEWS
In a determined effort to curb Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV), the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA), in collaboration with the Ford Foundation, has embarked on an intensive door-to-door sensitisation campaign across the Apapa-Iganmu Local Government Area.
The awareness drive, spearheaded by the DSVA Community Engagement Team, saw direct interactions with residents in key community hubs including places of worship, schools, markets, hospitals, and transport terminals. Locations visited included RCCG Messiah Palace, the Central Mosque, Emerald of Glory Academy, Gaskiya College, Amukoko Market, and Natafod Consultants Hospital.
Covering 10 strategic streets such as Sule Street and Amukoko Road, the campaign involved the distribution of Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) materials to a wide range of residents — from students, religious leaders, and educators to traders, transport workers, and business owners.
To ensure lasting impact, the team also deployed awareness stickers and erected IEC banners in high-traffic areas, reinforcing the message of zero tolerance for SGBV.
A central theme of the campaign was the urgent need for victims and witnesses to report all cases of domestic and sexual violence. The DSVA reiterated its commitment to offering free social support and legal services to survivors, while also encouraging residents to memorise its toll-free helpline — 08000-333-333 — for immediate access to assistance.
With over 20,000 people reached during the campaign, the initiative marks a significant stride in the state’s ongoing battle against SGBV. It also reflects the agency’s sustained efforts to build resilient, informed communities capable of preventing and addressing all forms of abuse.
