Nigeria has paused to honour the men and women of its Armed Forces on Armed Forces Remembrance and Celebration Day, paying tribute to those who lost their lives in service to the nation.
In a statement released on Thursday, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu said the country was remembering the courage and sacrifice of fallen service personnel whose commitment, he noted, continues to underpin Nigeria’s freedom and peace. While not all are remembered by name, the President said their bravery remains central to the nation’s stability.
The President also addressed the families of fallen soldiers, including widows, children and relatives, acknowledging the depth of their loss and describing the sacrifices made by their loved ones as enduring and honourable. He said the nation would not forget those who served Nigeria with distinction.
Tribute was equally paid to serving members of the Armed Forces currently deployed across the country and beyond. President Tinubu commended personnel operating on land, at sea and in the air, as well as those in support roles, for carrying out their duties with discipline and professionalism, often while separated from their families.
Reaffirming his role as President and Commander-in-Chief, Mr Tinubu restated his administration’s commitment to the welfare, dignity and support of the Armed Forces, stressing that national security depends on standing firmly behind those tasked with defending the country.
The statement concluded with prayers for the repose of fallen heroes, strength for serving personnel, and continued blessings for the nation.
