Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has announced the start of a significant school renovation and construction programme in the Kwara South Senatorial District, with work already underway at 13 public schools.
The announcement was made in a statement by Akeweje Olayinka Fafoluyi, Senior Special Assistant on New Media to the governor, on Tuesday. Adding that the initiative marks the first phase of a broader education overhaul, with 39 schools approved for renovation across the state. It forms part of the governor’s wider plan to rejuvenate public education by improving infrastructure and expanding access to learning.
The projects, funded through approved government allocations, will see a combination of refurbishment and new construction, including the building of classrooms, laboratories, examination halls and the repair of dilapidated school structures.
The government said the programme is aligned with its strategic vision to transform education in all 16 local government areas of Kwara State.
In the first phase, all 13 schools in Kwara South are currently undergoing renovation or construction. Many of these institutions have endured years of neglect and the state government says the interventions will restore them as functional centres of learning for their communities.
The schools benefiting in this first batch include Senior Secondary Comprehensive College, Isanlu-Isin, which will receive a new science laboratory; Surajudeen College, Erin-Ile, and Government Secondary School, Ipe, both of which will have classroom blocks renovated; and Nawair-Ud-Deen Grammar School, Offa, which will undergo classroom refurbishment.
Moremi High School, Offa, will have classroom facilities and offices renovated, while Iloffa Grammar School, Oke-Ero, and Government Secondary School, Idofian, will each receive new two-room laboratories.
Other beneficiaries include Community Comprehensive High School, Obo-Ile; Community Secondary School, Etan; Community Senior Secondary School, Ikerin; Idofian Grammar School; Iketa Grammar School, Osi; and Muslim High School, Oro—each set to receive various upgrades ranging from classroom renovations to new examination halls.
The governor’s office said the project is part of an ongoing school improvement policy aimed at addressing overcrowding, improving access to education and raising standards across the state.
