‘If she was our child, I’d take her’: Davido’s Dad speaks on paternity claims |LAGOS EYE NEWS

Billionaire businessman Dr Adedeji Adeleke has again rejected long-standing paternity claims involving his son, Nigerian music star Davido, saying multiple DNA tests have confirmed the singer is not the father of a child linked to the allegations.

Speaking publicly on the matter, Dr Adeleke said repeated tests were carried out following claims made by a woman identified as Ayo Labinjo, but all results returned negative.

He said he was unable to release Davido’s full DNA profile, citing legal and security concerns. Dr Adeleke explained that making such information public could pose risks if misused in criminal investigations. He added that the child’s DNA profile could not be disclosed because she is a minor and he does not have parental consent.

According to Dr Adeleke, the first DNA test ruled out Davido as the child’s father, a result he said left the child’s grandmother distressed. He recalled that when Davido first saw the child, the singer said he had never met her before but agreed that the DNA outcome was decisive.

“If this girl is our child, I am taking her,” Dr Adeleke quoted his son as saying at the time. He added that he advised Davido not to contact the child’s mother to avoid any allegation of harassment.

Dr Adeleke said that after the initial test, he proposed two additional DNA tests to put the matter to rest and paid for accommodation and living expenses for Ayo, her mother and the child. However, he claimed the woman’s mother later left for Ibadan before the further tests could be conducted.

The issue resurfaced in 2020, he said, after the child’s aunt contacted him to reopen discussions. This led to another round of confirmatory DNA testing.

Addressing speculation that the child might be related to Davido’s cousin, Bred, Dr Adeleke said a total of five tests were eventually carried out — three involving Davido and two involving Bred. All tests, he said, excluded both men as the child’s biological father.

He also rejected claims that the DNA results had been manipulated, saying the profiles were compared with a 2015 DNA test involving Davido’s daughter, Imade, which confirmed his paternity at 99.9 per cent. Dr Adeleke said the profiles were “completely different”, a conclusion he claimed was also acknowledged by Ayo’s sister.

Dr Adeleke said the family considered the matter settled, stressing that the series of tests consistently produced the same outcome.
