Nigeria’s Inspector General of Police,Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun has appointed Kayode Ojapinwa as the new Commissioner of Police in charge of the Police Special Fraud Unit (PSFU) in Lagos.
Mr Ojapinwa officially assumed duty on Monday, becoming the 33rd commissioner to lead the unit. He takes over from Rose Chollom Dung, who recently retired from the Nigeria Police Force.
On arrival at the PSFU headquarters in Ikoyi, Lagos, the new commissioner inspected a guard of honour and was received by senior officers, rank-and-file personnel and key stakeholders of the unit.
Mr Ojapinwa is from Ogun Waterside Local Government Area of Ogun State. He holds a degree in psychology from the University of Ibadan and joined the Nigeria Police Force in May 1992 as a cadet assistant superintendent of police.
Over more than three decades in policing, he has served in a range of investigative, operational and administrative roles. His previous postings include unit commander of the Mobile Police Force Squadron 18 in Owerri, divisional police officer in Mushin, Alakara Itire and Trade Fair divisions in Lagos, and area commander in Gboko, Benue State.
He has also held senior positions at the national level, including deputy commissioner of police at the Counter Terrorism Unit and the Criminal Investigation Department in Abuja. Until his latest appointment, he was commissioner of police in charge of the Special Protection Unit at police headquarters in Abuja.
Addressing officers after his resumption, Mr Ojapinwa urged personnel of the Special Fraud Unit to uphold professionalism, discipline and intelligence-led policing.
He thanked the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, for the opportunity to serve, pledging diligence and fairness in the discharge of his duties.
The new commissioner also called on members of the public and other stakeholders to support the police in combating crime, assuring that fraud-related offences would be handled with strict professionalism.
