Six killed in Lagos–Ibadan expressway truck crash|LAGOS EYE NEWS

At least six people have been killed and 23 others injured after a truck carrying passengers and cattle crashed along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway in south-west Nigeria, officials say.

The single-vehicle accident happened on Monday near the Foursquare Camp area of the busy highway.

The truck, a white-and-blue DAF CF 380 trailer, was reportedly transporting about 35 cows from northern Nigeria to Lagos State when it lost control and crashed. All the animals died in the incident.

Nigeria’s Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) said preliminary findings suggest that driver fatigue and excessive speed may have contributed to the crash.

Emergency responders arrived at the scene shortly after the incident and rescued the injured, who were taken to Oreoluwa Hospital, the GOFAMINT Camp clinic in Ogunmakin, and Victory Hospital in Ogere. The bodies of those who died were also moved to nearby medical facilities.

Confirming the incident, the FRSC Ogun Sector Command said the crash occurred at about 11:27 local time, with rescue teams reaching the scene within minutes.

The Lagos–Ibadan Expressway is one of Nigeria’s busiest transport routes and has a history of serious road accidents, often linked to speeding, fatigue and poor vehicle condition.

Authorities have renewed calls for motorists, especially long-distance drivers, to adhere strictly to road safety regulations.
