The Kogi State government has ordered all public and private schools in the state to proceed on an emergency midterm break from Wednesday, 4 February 2026, citing security concerns.
The directive, issued by Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo, does not include a resumption date. School authorities have been warned not to announce any date for reopening until further notice.
Details of the order were communicated through an urgent circular from the National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools (NAPPS) in Kogi State. The notice, signed by the association’s state chairman, Pastor Reuben Jimoh, stressed that compliance with the directive is mandatory.
According to the statement, failure to adhere to the government’s instruction could lead to the withdrawal of operating approvals for affected schools.
The circular described the closure as an “emergency midterm break” linked directly to ongoing security issues in the state.
Officials said the situation remains uncertain, with developments expected to be reviewed before Monday. As a result, school administrators have been advised against giving parents or students any indication of when academic activities may resume.
Parents and guardians have been urged to rely only on official government communications for updates regarding the reopening of schools, as authorities continue to monitor the security situation.
