The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has welcomed a ruling by the High Court of Oyo State affirming the validity of its National Convention held in Ibadan in November 2025.
In a judgment delivered in Ibadan, Justice Ladiran Akintola granted all the reliefs sought by the claimant, Folahan Malomo Adelabi, declaring the convention properly conducted. The court also directed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to recognise and give full effect to the decisions and outcomes of the gathering.
The suit was filed by Musibau Adetunbi, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, on behalf of Mr Adelabi, described as a member of the party. The claimant argued that the case was brought to protect his constitutional right to freedom of peaceful assembly and association.
Among the reliefs sought were orders compelling the PDP to conduct its elections as advertised and directing INEC to recognise the outcomes of the convention.
In a statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Comrade Ini Ememobong, the court had earlier granted an order on 3 November 2025, which was renewed on 14 November 2025, providing the legal basis for the convention held on 15 and 16 November. Wednesday’s judgment affirms and gives final effect to those earlier orders.
The PDP described the ruling as a vindication of both fact and law. The party said the decision reaffirmed that the Ibadan convention was conducted properly and in compliance with its constitution and Nigerian law.
The PDP also commended the court for what it described as its commitment to justice and reiterated its confidence in the judiciary as an independent arbiter.
The party said it remained committed to pursuing all legitimate legal avenues to ensure justice is served, expressing confidence that appellate courts would continue to uphold the law.
