Two Arrested Over Organised Motorcycle Theft Syndicate in Lamwo District|LAGOS EYE NEWS

Police in Lamwo District have arrested two key suspects believed to be part of an organised motorcycle theft syndicate operating across Lira City and Gulu in Uganda, and recovered several suspected stolen motorcycles and number plates.

The arrests stem from a robbery reported on February 18, 2026, in the Railway Area of Lira City. During the incident, a boda boda rider identified as Okello Moses was allegedly attacked with a hammer by unknown assailants who made off with his motorcycle, registration number UGH 245H.

Following the incident, security agencies intensified operations and acted on intelligence that led to the mounting of a checkpoint at Apyeta Bridge. At the checkpoint, officers arrested Kilama Robert, 27, a resident of Lwaya Village in Ogili Sub-County, along with Oweka Gerald. Oweka was found in possession of a red Bajaj motorcycle that had no number plate at the time of arrest.

Police later conducted a search at Oweka Gerald’s residence, where they recovered a motorcycle, related registration documents, and several suspected stolen number plates. The recovered plates include UGF 193J, UGH 918M, UMA 367BC, UFS 918F, UGA 101H, and UGA 069H.

The two suspects are currently in police custody as investigations continue. Authorities have urged members of the public who have lost motorcycles to report to the nearest police station for verification and possible identification of the recovered items.
