Lagos State House of Assembly Speaker, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa, addressing Muslim faithful at the 20th Ramadan Lecture in Mushin Constituency I.

The Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Dr. Mudashiru Obasa, has called on Nigerians, irrespective of religious and political affiliations, to rally support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in order to sustain ongoing reforms and ensure national development.

Obasa made the appeal while presiding as Chairman of the Day at the 20th Annual Ramadan Lecture held on Tuesday in remembrance of the late Chief Moshood Akanbi Akinsanya in Mushin area of Lagos.

Addressing participants on the theme, “Islamic Injunction and Leadership,” the Speaker emphasized that Islam places high premium on justice, accountability, and responsible leadership, noting that good governance remains fundamental to economic growth and social stability.

According to him, continuity in leadership is essential for consolidating reforms and policies aimed at repositioning Nigeria for sustainable progress.

“To support him, we must continue to give him our trust. The year 2027 is fast approaching, and we must reflect on our collective aspiration to sustain the progress already being recorded,” Obasa stated.

He urged citizens to objectively assess leadership based on performance and measurable impact, stressing that the administration of President Tinubu is providing purposeful direction for the country.

“We have witnessed previous administrations and can assess their stewardship. Today, Nigerians can equally evaluate what President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is doing. There is clarity of direction and commitment to national development,” he added.

The Speaker described leadership as a sacred trust rooted in service, vision, and responsibility, portraying President Tinubu as a statesman with continental recognition. He called on Nigerians to stand firmly behind leadership that prioritizes the welfare of the people.

In their separate sermons, Prof. Olayinka Kudus Amuni, Chief Imam of Lagos State University, and Sheikh Abdul-Raheem Abdullahi Salaty Alba (Albaarisy), admonished political office holders to govern with justice and compassion, reminding them that authority is a trust from Almighty Allah.

They urged citizens to refrain from cursing leaders but instead offer prayers, constructive advice and lawful participation in governance.

“When a leader governs well, the grassroots benefit. Where there are shortcomings, Islam teaches us to advise with wisdom and pray for guidance rather than resort to condemnation,” the scholars counseled.

Apex Leader, Senator Ganiyu Solomon, commended Obasa for sustaining the annual Ramadan Lecture for nearly two decades, describing it as spiritually impactful and beneficial to the Mushin community.

In his welcome address, Hon. Prince Nureni Akinsanya, representing Mushin Constituency I in the Lagos State House of Assembly, described the event as a tribute to the enduring legacy of his late father, Chief Moshood Akanbi Akinsanya, Akeweje of Mushin and Bada of Oguduland.
