The United States Embassy Abuja has cancelled all visa appointments scheduled for Wednesday, 4 March 2026, citing concerns over potential protests in Nigeria’s capital.
In a security alert issued on Tuesday, the mission also warned American citizens in Nigeria of rising tensions linked to the ongoing US-Israel-Iran conflict.
The embassy said the decision to suspend visa services for the day was taken “due to the potential for protests in Abuja”.
It added that affected applicants would be contacted with details on how to reschedule their appointments.
“Applicants will be contacted with information on how to reschedule. Please monitor our website and social media channels for further updates,” the statement said.
The mission noted that previous protests by some groups had resulted in violent clashes with Nigerian security forces.
It strongly advised US citizens in Abuja to remain indoors on Wednesday, 4 March, avoid areas where protests are taking place, steer clear of large gatherings, and monitor local media for updates.
Those requiring urgent assistance were directed to contact the embassy through its official emergency telephone line and other established communication channels.
