The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Abbas Tajudeen, has expressed shock over the death of his Deputy Chief of Staff (Legislative), Dunkwu Chamberlain Nnamdi.
Chamberlain, who hailed from Uteh Okpu community in Ika North East Local Government Area of Delta State, died in the early hours of Saturday.
He was also the President of the Nigerian Aquatics Federation and would have turned 55 on March 21.
In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Musa Abdullahi Krishi, the Speaker described the death as shocking and devastating.
Abbas said he was deeply saddened that Chamberlain died while actively serving the country, noting that the deceased was a dependable ally who carried out his duties diligently.
According to the Speaker, Chamberlain had joined him and other colleagues for the breaking of fast on Friday evening and appeared full of life hours before his death.
“This is indeed a moment of grief for me, my colleagues, his family, and the staff in my office as we mourn the death of this wonderful human being. This is one death too many,” the Speaker said.
He added that the late legislative aide lived a life dedicated to service and left behind a legacy of selflessness, commitment, and responsibility.
Abbas also visited the family of the deceased to commiserate with his widow and children, urging them to take heart and praying that God grants them the strength to bear the loss.
Chamberlain was appointed Deputy Chief of Staff (Legislative) to the Speaker on June 26, 2023. Before then, he served as Special Adviser on Members’ Affairs to the Speaker of the 9th Assembly and later as Chief of Staff to the President under Femi Gbajabiamila.
He was a member of the All Progressives Congress and a Knight of the Anglican Communion in the Asaba Diocese.
