Zamfara Governor, Lawal, Dumps PDP For APC|LAGOS EYE NEWS

In a major political development in Zamfara State, Governor Dauda Lawal and his deputy, Mani Malam Mummuni, have officially defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

The announcement was made by Deputy Governor Mani Malam Mummuni on Monday during a meeting with members of the state executive council in Gusau, the state capital.

Speaking on behalf of the governor, Mummuni confirmed that the state leadership has now aligned with the APC, ending months of speculation amid ongoing crises within the PDP.

This defection further strengthens the APC’s hold on governorships across Nigeria, reportedly bringing the number of APC-controlled states to 31.

It comes against the backdrop of internal challenges in the PDP and strategic considerations ahead of future elections, including the 2027 polls.

The move marks a significant shift in Zamfara’s political landscape, where Governor Lawal had previously won office under the PDP banner in 2023.
