Amotekun Arrests Two Suspected Highway Robbers Along Ilesa–Ibadan Expressway |LAGOS EYE NEWS

Operatives of the Osun Amotekun Corps have arrested two suspected highway robbers during a patrol operation along the Ilesa–Ibadan Expressway.

The suspects, identified as Chimar Eze (29) and Sunday Okori (41), both natives of Ebonyi State and residents of Mowe, were apprehended late on Saturday, at about 11:35 p.m. while allegedly attempting to rob a vehicle conveying goods from Ibadan.

According to preliminary reports, the suspects and their accomplices reportedly mounted a trap along the highway to intercept the commercial vehicle.

The driver, however, managed to escape the ambush and alerted nearby patrol operatives of the Amotekun Corps.

Security personnel quickly responded to the distress call and moved to the scene. On sighting the operatives, the suspects reportedly fled into the surrounding bush, abandoning the targeted vehicle.

The operatives pursued the fleeing gang members and succeeded in arresting two of them, while two others escaped.

During initial interrogation, the suspects reportedly confessed to belonging to a four-man robbery gang. They claimed the group began its criminal activities in early 2025, targeting motorists and commercial vehicles along major highways.

The suspects also admitted that items stolen from victims were usually transported to Lagos and sold. They reportedly told investigators that they turned to crime after their street hawking business in Lagos failed to generate sufficient income.

The suspects later led security operatives to their hideout an uncompleted building located inside a forest along the expressway where several items believed to be stolen were recovered.

Items recovered include, Cartons of solar lights, Various baby clothing, Two tape rules, One touch light,Two long wooden sticks.

Reacting to the arrest, the Corps Commander of the Osun Amotekun Corps, Adekunle Isaac Omoyele, commended operatives of the Ilesa Area Command for their swift and professional response.

He particularly praised the team led by Area Commander John Ilori for successfully apprehending suspects believed to be linked to recent robbery incidents along the highway.

Omoyele assured residents that the suspects would face the full weight of the law after ongoing investigations are concluded. He added that security agencies are working to track down the remaining gang members who fled the scene.

The commander also urged residents of Osun State to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities to security agencies.

He reaffirmed the corps’ commitment to protecting lives and property across the state and maintaining peace and security.

The suspects are expected to be handed over to the Department of State Services (DSS) for further interrogation and possible prosecution.
