Ghana Arrests 93 Nigerians Over Alleged Internet Fraud, Rescues 73 Victims|LAGOS EYE NEWS

Authorities in Ghana say 93 Nigerian nationals have been arrested and 73 victims rescued during an intelligence-led operation targeting suspected internet fraud in the capital, Accra.

The operation was carried out by the Ghana Immigration Service, which raided six houses believed to have been used for a sophisticated online fraud scheme. Officials said some of the victims were allegedly held against their will and subjected to abuse.

According to the authorities, 91 of those arrested are men while two are women. All are facing charges related to internet fraud and immigration offences.

During the raid, officers recovered several items believed to have been used in the operation, including 82 laptops, 57 mobile phones and 17 television sets. Investigators also said counterfeit US dollars and fake gold bars were found at the properties.

The 73 rescued victims have since been repatriated to Nigeria.

Officials said preliminary investigations suggest some of the suspects entered Ghana illegally, while others may have overstayed the 90-day visa-free period allowed for certain visitors.

Authorities warned that offences related to human trafficking under Ghanaian law carry severe penalties. Under the country’s Human Trafficking Act, those convicted could face prison terms ranging from five to 20 years, or life imprisonment in more serious cases.
