Lecturers at the University of Lagos have announced an indefinite strike following a dispute over what they describe as incomplete salary payments.
The decision was taken by the university’s branch of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) after an emergency meeting in which members expressed concern about what they called “amputated salaries” for January and February 2026.
In a communiqué issued after the meeting, the union accused the university’s management of paying lecturers only partial salaries for the two months, a situation it says has caused widespread dissatisfaction among staff.
The statement was signed by the union’s chairperson, Idou Kehinde, and secretary, Adesina Arikawe.
ASUU said the industrial action will begin on Wednesday, with lecturers withdrawing their services until the matter is addressed and their demands are met.
The move could disrupt lectures and other academic activities at the institution if the dispute is not resolved quickly.
Students and other stakeholders have expressed hope that both sides will reach an agreement soon in order to avoid a prolonged interruption to the academic calendar.
