Speaker Obasa Appointed to Key Commonwealth Parliamentary Role|LAGOS EYE NEWS

The Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Ajayi Obasa, has been appointed as a Sub-National Representative on the African Executive Committee of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA).

The appointment was formally announced in a letter from the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association African Region, which was read on the floor of the House by the Clerk, Olalekan Onafeko.

According to the letter, Mr Obasa will serve a three-year term from 2026 to 2029.

It stated that he will begin his tenure by participating in the 90th Executive Committee meeting scheduled to take place in Swakopmund.

The CPA African Region works to promote and protect the interests and perspectives of African parliaments within the Commonwealth. It also advocates gender equality, women’s empowerment, respect for human rights, democracy and good governance among member states.

Lawmakers in the Lagos Assembly congratulated the Speaker, describing him as a committed parliamentarian whose work continues to bring recognition to both Lagos State and Nigeria.

In his response, Mr Obasa thanked his colleagues and urged members to prioritise the interests of the House while continuing efforts to strengthen the legislature.

He also directed the Clerk to send a letter of appreciation to the CPA African Region for the appointment.
