President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has pledged to improve electricity supply and expand opportunities for young people in governance, as he called for unity within the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Speaking on Friday at the party’s 4th Elective National Convention in Abuja, the President described the gathering as a defining moment for both the APC and Nigeria’s democratic journey.

He urged party members to remain committed to his administration’s “Renewed Hope Agenda,” stressing that unity remains the party’s strongest asset.

Tinubu recalled the formation of the APC in 2013, noting that its founders set aside political differences to pursue national development and steer the country away from economic decline.

He paid tribute to former President Muhammadu Buhari and other late party figures, urging current leaders to uphold the founding vision and avoid divisions driven by personal ambition.

Reaffirming the party’s mission, Tinubu said the APC was established not merely as a political platform but as a vehicle for national transformation aimed at strengthening governance, institutions and economic opportunities.

He dismissed claims that the party seeks to dominate Nigeria’s political space, emphasizing that a vibrant opposition is essential for accountability and good governance.

On electoral reforms, the President defended the Electoral Act 2026, describing criticisms from opposition groups as misplaced.

He maintained that the law followed due legislative process and reflects Nigeria’s commitment to credible elections.

Addressing the economy, Tinubu highlighted what he described as key achievements of his administration, including infrastructure development, fiscal reforms and improved investor confidence despite global economic pressures.

He noted gains such as declining inflation, improved foreign exchange reserves, trade surpluses and increased activity in the oil and gas sector.

Acknowledging ongoing challenges in the power sector, the President outlined plans to boost electricity supply through new initiatives, including the proposed Grid Asset Management Company.

Tinubu also promised greater inclusion of youths and women in governance and party structures, encouraging young Nigerians to actively participate in leadership and national development.

He urged party members to maintain discipline during the convention and avoid actions that could undermine unity, while commending the organising committee and APC governors for a successful event. The President also charged newly elected party officials to lead with integrity and dedication.

Tinubu concluded by calling on party leaders to sustain the APC’s growth and expand its membership base, citing recent defections from other political parties as a sign of growing public confidence in the ruling party.
