Agege LG Boss Vows Strict Penalties for Illegal Waste Disposal |LAGOS EYE NEWS

The chairman, Agege Local Government Area, Vinod Obasa has warned residents and businesses against indiscriminate waste disposal, saying defaulters will face strict penalties as the council moves to tackle rising environmental concerns in the area.

Obasa, who spoke on the deteriorating waste situation in parts of the community, said his attention had been drawn to waste accumulation along the National Railway Corporation corridor, a stretch under the management of the Nigerian Railway Corporation.

Despite the jurisdictional divide, the council boss said his administration was not prepared to look the other way.

“When any part of Agege suffers, we all suffer, and we must act,” he said.

He disclosed that the local government is already working with the Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) and other relevant agencies to ensure prompt waste evacuation and restore proper environmental standards across the area.

Obasa said stricter enforcement measures would be rolled out going forward, with zero tolerance for illegal dumping.

The council chairman also called on residents, traders, transport operators and corporate organisations to take personal responsibility for their immediate surroundings, stressing that environmental cleanliness was a shared civic duty and not the exclusive preserve of government.

“A clean environment is not just the government’s responsibility; it is a collective duty we all share,” he said.
