The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially flagged off its Mega Voter Registration Exercise in Lagos Central, in a move aimed at expanding voter access and boosting citizen participation in the electoral process.
The exercise was launched on Tuesday, at the Ajele Sports Complex, Lagos Island. The event was led by the Lagos State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Professor Ayobami Salami, alongside members of the commission’s management team.
According to INEC, the Mega Centre initiative is designed to address the growing number of prospective voters in densely populated urban areas. The commission noted that the centres will help reduce congestion at existing registration points while improving efficiency through the deployment of additional personnel and equipment.
INEC further explained that the initiative aims to bring voter registration services closer to residents in strategic locations, enhancing accessibility and improving the overall voter experience.
The exercise will provide a range of services, including fresh registration for new voters, transfer of voter registration, correction or update of personal details, and replacement of lost or damaged Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs).
Speaking at the flag-off, Prof. Salami called on eligible residents, particularly first-time voters, to take advantage of the opportunity to register. He reiterated the commission’s commitment to ensuring that no eligible voter is disenfranchised.
The registration exercise will run until Saturday, April 12, 2026, across designated centres, operating daily from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
INEC stated that the initiative forms part of its broader efforts to deepen voter inclusion and strengthen the integrity of Nigeria’s electoral process.
