Lagos State Government have warned motorists of road closures on several major routes this week as the state government prepares to commission newly completed infrastructure projects.
The closures, announced on Tuesday by Transport Commissioner, Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi, will run across Wednesday 8th and Thursday 9th April, covering parts of Ikeja, Apapa, Ajegunle and Victoria Island among the city’s busiest and most densely trafficked districts.
The first event the commissioning of the Opebi-Mende Link Bridge takes place Wednesday morning, with closures in effect from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. affecting the Opebi-Allen and Ojota areas.
Thursday brings two separate ceremonies: the opening of the Tolu Schools Complex in Olodi Apapa from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., and an evening event at Eko Hotel, Victoria Island, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
Traffic management agency LASTMA will deploy personnel across all affected corridors, and the public has been asked to cooperate with officers on the ground.
Lagos, home to an estimated 15 million people, regularly grapples with severe traffic congestion, and major road closures even temporary ones can cause significant disruption across the metropolitan area.
